Don't be fooled again!

Pretty much everyone knew that once Olmert's legal woes painted him into a corner he would take a page from the Ariel Sharon playbook and do something - anything - dramatic to get the media and the leftist elites on his side (i.e. get them to offer him virtual immunity from prosecution).

Well, a couple of days ago when Olmert's people suddenly announced that the Prime Minister was going in for prostate cancer tests, I was pretty sure that was it... he was going to play the sympathy card instead of making a political end run to the left.  Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt for a moment that Ehud Olmert has prostate cancer if he says he does.  After all, considering where his head has been for most of his adult life, he should know better than anyone what's up there.

But despite the timing of the whole cancer announcement just as he was running out of legal arguments in his latest scandal being a little too perfect to have been a coincidence, it seemed odd that Olmert wasn't going to offer some bold leftist initiative like Sharon in order to shoo off the circling vultures.

Well, guess what?  Olmert's government has just officially announced peace negotiations with Syria (brokered by Turkey).  Now this isn't terribly surprising since there have been rumors and trial balloons for months suggesting back-channel contact between Israel and Syria.  But the Israeli public support for giving up the Golan Heights (the Syrian pre-condition for any deal) is almost non-existent, so nobody paid much attention to the rumors.

But now the headlines of all the Israeli news outlets are trumpeting the peace negotiations in huge headlines, and I fear we may be on our way to having another disengagement shoved down our throats!

And Assad may be a lot of things... but he isn't stupid.  He knows that the best chance he has of getting the Golan is from the hands of a desperate Israeli Prime Minister fighting for his political life.

Trust me... anyone who tries to oppose this is going to be labelled 'anti-peace'.

People, not only is the Golan Heights essential to Israeli security... it is ours by rights and by law!

From atop the Golan Heights, Syria relentlessly bombarded the Galilee and held a  threatening position over all of northern and central Israel.

In 1964, Eli Cohen, the greatest spy in the history of Israel, revealed how Syria was going to divert the head waters of the Jordan River in the Golan Heights... and how easily this could be accomplished.  He gave his life proving how vulnerable Israel was with Syria atop the Golan.

Land for peace is a flawed idea.  Peace for peace is all Israel owes any of its enemies at this point in history.  We were not the aggressors in the murderous wars waged against us.  We should not have to offer up a part of ourselves in order to sue for peace.  You tried to destroy us.  you failed.  No other country in the history of the world has won its wars and then had to offer up land in order to sue for peace!!!

This orgy of retreats and capitulations that Sharon and now Olmert use to woo the elitists on the left cannot be tolerated or allowed to continue.  Not because they are being used to shield criminals from prosecution... but because they are unethical and mortally dangerous to the State of Israel.

DON'T BE FOOLED AGAIN!

Actually it's been known that Olmert has prostate cancer for quite a while (at least a half year that I can recall).

This is a little closer to your home...

David, please tell me that at least someone with influence reads this blog. You are consistently the voice of reason in country where so little makes any shred of sense. . . and 8 monthes after making aliya, we wouldn't leave it for anything.

JDMDad... Good morning! :-)

JoeSettler... Yes I know, but the announcement of the current tests took over the news cycle quite nicely when the media should have been talking only about his legal woes. I feel strongly that that was carefully calculated.

Rachel... Nope. Just us little people over here at treppenwitz. :-)

Too late, the "peace" drugs have already begun to take effect... :(

How can it be possible that Israel has to keep giving away pieces of itself just get the killing to stop (for a time)? I won't call it peace, because I can't believe it is. Israel should be a light for all nations. It breaks my heart to see it become as messed up as the rest of us (not the people, just the politics).

Time to rent "Wag the Dog" - again.

Do these people have no clue?

I find this all so sad. Mazuz sets up a polician. And, the mob screams. And, Katsav, without being indicted, leaves his presidential chair. Where, irony of ironies, the tuchis that lands in it is Shimon Peres. Stamp this NOT KOSHER!

Olmert took bribes? Really? The man who has held the most cash in envelopes is BIBI NETANYAHU! Who also doesn't repay political debts. He runs. And, it "costs" his handlers.

Going after Olmert this way is so sad.

After the right not only saw Rabin murdered. But has helped his murderer marry while in jail. And, this piece of dreck has fathered a child. Yet, no one is ashamed.

Arik Sharon was popularly elected. And, the Likud hates the reality that they lost at the ballot box. Bibi decided not to join Olmert's government. Why? Because he knows there are other means that can toss Olmert out of office?

You don't think it's important that rich Jews share their wealth with Israelis? Why not? You think only Haredi can collect money to "bribe" politicians? How so?

One thing is becoming obvious. Morris Talansky is no hero. Though he seems to have "refreshed memories" that go back to 1996. So, he describes "envelope passing."

While, here in America, Hillary Clinton, having a memory flashback to 1996, said her husband sent her to Bosnie. Where she came under sniper fire. She didn't. And, with her own hands, she ruined her chances of being nominated by the democrats.

Politics is dirty. Yup. Nothing new.

But to clown around with Talansky when Olmert had grasped an American President, to VISIT ISRAEL! That should not have been crapped on. Nada. That will have ramifications and repercussions. Bush didn't like getting snagged inside the "cat fight." (And, who knows? Money Laundering rules in America put the mafia titans in jail. Maybe? Maybe, Talansky isn't quite "home free" yet.)

And, Arik Sharon, in his book WARRIOR discusses trips to the USA. To the East Coast. And, in particular, one trip. Where a "macher from the West Coast" told him he'd "do well if he visited LA."

Arik spent the thousands to make the trip. And, it seemed the crowd that came was "big." However, all he got was one envelope. From this "macher - schmedrick") He was excited. He thought it would be a small fortune. But it wouldn't look nice to open the envelope at the affair. It burned in his pocket, until he got back to the hotel room. And, when he opened it up? $25. Twenty-five. That was it! Some haul. But, it does give you a lesson.

ALL politicians have to grub for money from the public. Ronald Reagan awoke every day, and he extended his hands (starting in 1972), if every small byway of America. Discovering the GRASS ROOTS Republican Party. Up to that time? It was strictly country-club. And, Reagan? He was willing to go and meet people! He'd meet people in someone's living room. And, no one put together a grass-roots like he did!

Olmert didn't take bribes.

It's only a matter of time, (like Rabin's assassination), for the truth to begin dwelling at home. Because to "cast out" a prime minister with Mazuz trickery is disqusting.

And, ya know what? Olmert may stick it out!

In America, when Ken Starr tried this trick on Bill Clinton, do you know who won?

You think an unzipped pair of pants, around your ankles is a big deal? Think, again. Because in America more people are compassionate, than not. And, more people backed Bill Clinton. Because? The Monica Lewinsky "thing" wasn't worth a crock. But, take note. IT'S UNFORGETTABLE. Just like the Sinatra song.

So? So, Sinatra was Italian. They said the mafia made him "big." But it was really his talent.

And, that's it. Olmert will be able to showcase his. And, inviting Bush into the Knesset should have been a feather in his cap. If you can't figure this out? Leave it to the children. When they grow up, they will.

i think "unforgetable" was nat king cole.

you don't get it do you?

"[name redacted by the management]" is an acronym for "no real charm" (and that of course is subjective and may be ironical)

Ooooops I meant "no clear harm".

Posted by: asher | May 22, 2008 2:16:27 PM

given that no-one from Tel Aviv got shouted at for being a latte drinking leftie peacenik, I have to say I agree with the content of this post. How realistic is it really that Israel would give up the Golan? I just can't see it happening. Am I naive?

Posted by: Katherine | May 22, 2008 2:49:41 PM

tnspr569... They sure do slurp up that Koolaid when someone pours them a glass, don't they?

Maffy... What do you mean 'like the rest of us'? Name any countries that have given up land for peace lately? :-)

psachya... Equally unbelievable plot line... yet it keeps happening in real life here.

Carol Herman... Interesting point. Can you elaborate?

Ben-David... No, she seems to be a haus frau in Pasadena with too much time on her hands and a deficit of social graces.

nikki... You managed to read all that AND absorb the information? You have more patience than I do. :-)

asher... As a site owner I'm not sure about the latter.

Katherine... Of course you're naive. All latte drinking leftie peaceniks are naive. ;-) Sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously, you show a lot of class for having forgiven some of my earlier excesses. Much appreciated. And no, I don't think you are being naive... but I also don't think we should underestimate Olmert's ability to do whatever he wants so long as he gives out enough favors in the Knesset.

Wow. I can't believe they'd be this dumb.

Just for once, I'd like to see people running Israel who care more for its ultimate safety, security, high moral character, and happiness of its citizens than they do for their own political hides or narrow partisan agendas...

Asher... Sharon has a warm bed and people looking after his needs 24/7. I save my compassion for the thousands of people he cynically threw out of their homes with empty promises of compensation, resettlement and assistance finding employment. Three years later most of those people are still waiting for their government to keep its promises. Communities destroyed. Lives destroyed. Sharon got a relatively easy way, out all things considered. Why is it that you don't seem to be outraged about the Gaza evacuees having been abandoned, but you find your voice when a criminal like Sharon is defamed on an obscure blog?
