Photo Friday (Vol ???) OMG Edition

The photograph below landed in my inbox while I slept last night.  It shows an impossibly young, skinny (and not-bald) me surrounded by a bunch of young girls.

While I recognize some of the girls, I have no earthly idea when or where this photo was taken.

All I could say when I looked at it was "Oh.  My.  G-d."
Omg

Any help in placing this photo into its proper context would be appreciated.

Shabbat Shalom.

David Bogner: Chick Magnet.

Based on the clothes, my guess is the approximate year is 1984-1987.

Good to know you were hanging with the frum chicks....

Hm. 1980's, a bunch of religious girls and you . . . my first reaction was that this must have been taken at an NCSY or Bnei Akiva Shabbaton, or some other event for a religious, co-ed youth group. However, a few of the girls are holding folders which look rather academic, so either you were visiting friends at a girls' school of some kind, or whatever the informal event/Shabbaton was, there was some sort of official-kinda-sorta component, like a seminar/lecture or whatever. Like a "leadership training seminar" for teens or something like that.

Does this jog any memories?

Yes, I agree, that definitely looks like some kind of NCSY event circa 1987. Those were the days!

TLS ? Camp Morasha, maybe ?

What a cute photo!
Who says the guitarist always gets the girls?!

Posted by: Shifra | Jul 20, 2007 3:54:06 PM

This wasn't taken at last year's Hooter's company picnic?

What's with the postures? :-)

That is the 1983 publicity photo for the Camp Mishegahs Summer Siyyum bash.

Heh. Tzitzis out and everything...! :)

Posted by: Ezzie | Jul 20, 2007 5:23:59 PM

Clearly, I can't be of help here, but neither can I bite my tongue enough to not gasp, "O.M.G. ... this is so 80s!"

1986?

Posted by: Account Deleted | Jul 20, 2007 5:55:38 PM

I don't know about the picture, per se... but would it offend you if I pointed out that I was probably still in diapers (or at least preschool) at the time? :)

This looks like when I was in high school (some of the girls actually look VERY similar to girls I was in HS with), so I'd say 1985/6.

Looks like you're on a tour, the sign behind you looks foreign-ish . . .

Posted by: AnnieD | Jul 20, 2007 8:30:40 PM

June 1985. David "Boggy" Bogner and his band, Buttloads of Hummus, take a break from their road-trip across America in Yenemvelt, Colorado. Flanking David are his back-up singers, the Kalamatunettes.

Posted by: Elisson | Jul 20, 2007 9:09:20 PM

The foreign-ish sign says: PARKING.

Looks like a camp; some kind of Spring Regional Shabbaton is my guess.

sure doesn't look like our hometown!

"While I recognize some of the girls, I have no earthly idea when or where this photo was taken"

Do any of the "girls" read your blog? I guess not, or at least they were doing something else this Friday, otherwise they would have at least given you an idea of when the photo was taken.

What does Zahava have to say about this?

"Who says the guitarist always gets the girls?!"

The bass player gets the girls. They do look familiar, I'll give you that.

You might find the answer here.

How about those Dodgers. ;)

K Newman... Dude, I was like 23 in this picture and the girls are totally high school. Yeef!

Safranit... Hanging out might be too strong a phrase. However there seems to have been some sort of proximity... :-)

Sarah... A little hint from the sender puts the picture in 86 or 87, and a Seaboard NCSY event. Two or three of the girls are married and living here in Israel (the ones closest to me on wither side are apparently sisters).

Abbi... I'm pretty impressed how closely people were able to zero in on the year.

howie... I didn't go to Morasha, but if I hadn't gotten the NCSY hint from the sender I would have also guessed TLS.

Shifra... It was the guitarist who sent me the picture. :-)

dfb1968... Yeah, that'd be my next guess. :-)

Rami... I think they were all going for the 'Belinda Carlisle' thing.

Jack... Close. :-)

Ezzie... I always say, if you have to have something hanging out to prove you're religious, better tzitzis than milah. :-)

a. ... Nailed it! :-)

Mike Miller... Offend? No. Make me feel ancient? What do you think? :-)

AnnieD... Boy, you people are good (except for the whole 'foreign sign' thing). :-)

Elisson... Very cute.

Dov... I'm thinking the girls are dressed too warmly for spring regional. no?

weese... Why's that? No tats /piercings? :-)

David S... Clearly I was hoping that some did. In the end, the sender clued me in.

psychotoddler... Did you do any Seaboard events?

Back of the Hill... You, Jack and Elisson should team up and start a blog. No wait...

Jack... Oy!

Dave, This picture is from a Seabord Regional Shabbaton and these are the Philly girls. I can name most of them. Check out this link to Etan G's pictures, you'll find more of your young studdly self there! Oh, the days...
Enjoy!

Okay, okay, so I can't read on my teeny computer when the picture is small. As soon as you said it said "parking" it made sense. . .

What's amazing to me is how much those girls (from Phili) look EXACTLY like girls I was in school with in Chicago . . .

Posted by: AnnieD | Jul 23, 2007 5:31:07 AM

RE: SarahB's link to Eitan G's photos... Wow. Vicarious trip down memory lane: the boys and I know many of those faces as grownups, here in Holey Bal'mer, Hon. Weird to see how many of them look like their own sons... My kids had a few choice comments about the Eighties, which I ignored. (They don't know what fun IS.) Fortunately, they had the good sense not to speak of more hair and less weight...

I also picked it as NCSY, but not Jersey, cause we never had a Camp in as good physical condition. The stonework behind you is a giveaway that it wasn't Sternberg.
I sent you in as a sub when I was sick, and you get the girls. And you a trombone player at that.
